The Moncrieff Shoe Shop                             

 

Two  photographs showing the demolition of an early Moncrieff shoe shop on  Brow Top,  Workington.

Believed to have been taken c. 1905.

 

 

 

 

                                                   

                                                                I have the original glass negatives of these and am amazed  at the quality. Look at the wet step in   the photograph above.

 

 

 

 

 

Just to the right of the horse's head in the second photograph are the steps leading down to the allotments on the Cloffocks. The wall of the old Central Railway bridge can be seen in both photographs.

 

 

 

 

 

An advertising leaflet produced between the wars. John and Robert finally closed the business in 1960 and the premises were taken over by Whelan the  chemist
